Unlock Your Musical Potential

Hi, I’m Paul. Based in Colwyn Heights in North Wales, my aim is to make music fun and help you achieve your goals, whatever they might be. Everyone’s aims, style, and schedule are different, but together we can build your confidence and enjoyment of your instrument.

A little bit about myself…

I’ve been playing guitar and drums for over 30 years, and began teaching myself songs by the loudest bands I could find in my brother’s mixtape collection. I played in bands throughout school and University and continued my passion for music throughout my working life. Whilst working for the BBC, I snuck a drum kit, a guitar and amp into the roof space of my building and played after work to keep my skills up. After taking music lessons from the legendary Pete Friesen (Alice Cooper, The Almighty, ACM), I decided to get serious about music and returned to writing my own material. 12 months later I’m about to release an album recorded and mixed entirely in the practice room with my band Skin Dive.

I live with my wife, two children, five cats, twelve guitars and two drum kits.

Your Questions, Answered

What times of the week do you offer lessons and how much do they cost?

Lessons are available Monday to Saturday, 1000 - 1800. Other times may be available - please get in touch.

Lessons are £20 per 50 minute session. For most people 50 minutes is the limit of how long they can concentrate on a creative task. If you want to discuss rates for different lesson durations, please let me know.

Do I need prior experience to start and what if I don’t have an instrument?

No. I specialise in working with people with no musical experience. That’s where we all started.

Because everyone learns in a different way, there’s no strict system of hoops to jump through and no one correct way of approaching your learning. If you want to jump around between technique, theory, improvisation and maintenance, it’s whatever works for you.

If you don’t have a guitar or drum kit, I can advise on low cost options and in some circumstances can rent or loan a guitar on a short term basis if you’re unsure you want to persue it long term. I can also help with set-up and general maintenance of your instrument.

Are there are any age limitations for learning the guitar or drums?

Not at all - you’re never too young to start and never too old to learn a new skill. I also have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate so can work with people of all ages and abilities.
